I didn’t expect Human Design to change the way I run my business.
We’ve had a few human design blogs over the years, even a podcast interview, and honestly? I always thought it was too complicated.
The charts, the gates, the language — it felt like another system I’d have to study before I “got it.”
Then ChatGPT came along and I thought, why not hand it my chart and see if it can break this down for me? And wow — it did.
When I learned I was a Generator, something clicked. Suddenly, all those times I’d felt drained trying to force launches, chase trends, or “just go do it” made sense. I wasn’t built to initiate out of thin air. I was built to respond. And once I understood that, my entire mindset around marketing shifted.
What Is Human Design? (And Why Does It Matter for Business?)
If you’re new to Human Design, here’s the simplest way I can put it: it’s a system that shows you how you’re designed to interact with the world, make decisions, and use your energy. It’s like a user manual for how you operate best — energetically, emotionally, and strategically.
Unlike personality tests that tell you “who” you are, Human Design is more about how you move through life and business in a way that feels aligned with your natural flow.
In business, that’s powerful. Because instead of cramming yourself into strategies that leave you burned out, you can understand what actually works for you — and suddenly, marketing doesn’t feel like a grind.
What Being a Generator Taught Me
Here’s what I’ve learned as a Generator with sacral authority:
- My gut instinct is everything. I get instant yes/no responses in my body, and when I trust them, I make better decisions — from whether to take on a client, to whether a blog topic is worth pursuing.
- I thrive when I respond to something real: client questions, audience DMs, or even a spark from scrolling Pinterest. If it lights me up, I can run with it.
- My signal emotion is frustration. It shows up when I’m ignoring my gut or forcing strategies just because I think I should. Now, instead of beating myself up for feeling stuck, I take it as a cue to realign.
When I started leaning into this, marketing got easier. My best content came from responses, not forced ideas. My launches felt lighter. And I stopped exhausting myself by trying to initiate just for the sake of “keeping up.”
My Chart Beyond Type: Why It Matters
Type is only the starting point. The rest of my chart explains even more about how I naturally work best.
- Sacral Authority: My gut response is my decision-maker, not my brain. That’s why my fastest, most aligned choices happen in the moment.
- 3/5 Profile: I’m wired to experiment, mess up, and learn through trial and error (line 3). Then, I naturally share what I’ve learned in a way that helps others (line 5). That’s basically my entire business model: I try things, then I teach them.
- Triple Split Definition: My energy processes in phases, which means I need variety and space before things connect. Looking back, this explains why I thrive juggling Life Goals Mag, Life Goals Marketing, and the podcast — I need multiple outlets for my energy to integrate.
- Right Angle Cross of Service: My life theme is about helping others, and it shows. Whether it’s Pinterest strategy, blogging, or content creation, everything I do is rooted in serving creatives.
- Environment: Caves: I do my best work when I feel safe and in control of my space. Cozy corners, coffee shops, or home offices that feel like mine help me show up fully.
- Not-Self Theme: Frustration: Instead of seeing frustration as failure, I now use it as a signal — a reminder that I’ve drifted from alignment and need to pause.

Recognizing What I Already Knew
The funny thing is, I already knew a lot of this about myself. I knew I thrived when I followed my gut, that I loved experimenting and turning lessons into content, that I felt calmer in cozy, controlled spaces, and that frustration hit hardest when I pushed against what felt natural.
But I didn’t have language for it. I thought those quirks were just “my way of working.”
Human Design gave me a framework to see them not as random habits, but as part of how I’m actually built. It was the first time I thought, oh… this isn’t me being inconsistent or scattered, this is me being me.
And once I understood that, it gave me permission to lean all the way in. To stop fighting my natural energy and start building my business around it.
How This Shows Up in My Marketing
Since learning my chart, I’ve shifted how I market in really practical ways:
- I don’t chase every idea. I wait for the gut “yes.”
- I experiment constantly (3/5 energy), knowing not everything will work, but the lessons will always feed back into my content.
- I give myself permission to juggle projects instead of forcing myself into one box.
- I stop at the first signs of frustration, treating it as feedback instead of pushing harder.
- I build my offers and launches from a place of genuine response, not forced initiation.
The result? Marketing feels lighter. My energy feels more focused. And I’m creating from a place of alignment instead of pressure.
I’m Still Learning (And That’s the Point)
I’m not a Human Design expert. I’m still piecing together what it means to be a 3/5 Generator with sacral authority and a cross of service in real time. But what I’ve learned so far has given me permission to slow down, trust myself, and design a business that feels good to run.
At the end of the day, Human Design is about awareness. Awareness that you don’t have to do things the “standard” way. Awareness that your energy has a rhythm worth listening to.
And once you start honoring that, business stops feeling like a constant uphill climb and starts feeling like a life you actually want to live in.
